The event is being hosted by Bigfoot Go-Ride and will be held at Bromley High Junior School, Thornet Wood Road, Bromley, BR1 2LW. Click for map.

Please park in Thornet Wood Road and use the Thornet Wood Road entrance to the school, not the Blackbrook Lane entrance.

It’s not too late to start racing, even if you’ve not entered in any of the previous rounds. It’s a fun friendly atmosphere, and if you don’t fancy racing why not pop down and cheer on your fellow team mates?

Registration starts at 10.00 with the first race due to start at 10.30. The races should be over by midday.

It costs £3 per rider to enter, which covers two races – an individual time trial and a mass start race. Riders will race in their age categories as usual. We ask parents to stay on site to supervise their children, as the coaches will be busy running the event so won’t be able to provide the same level of supervision as normal.

We’ll be back at Pickhurst for the last coaching session of this half term on Saturday 4 February.

On Saturday 12 November we will be holding our session at Bedgebury, where we can practice our off road riding skills in a challenging but safe environment. Find out more, and register online. Continue reading →

Each term we try to arrange at least one Go-Ride coaching session away from our base at Pickhurst. On Saturday 12 November we will be holding our session at Bedgebury, where we can practice our off road riding skills in a challenging but safe environment.

More experienced and fitter riders will be able to tackle the full 8 mile off road route under the supervision of a coach and helpers. Other coaches will supervise two more groups tackling an intermediate route and the shorter family route.

Parents are very welcome to join us on the ride, or can explore the pinetum, cafe and lake, or take non-riding children to the various playgrounds. More information on Bedgebury can be found here: http://www.bedgeburypinetum.org.uk/

The session will start at 11.00am and we will aim to finish by 1.30pm, in time for lunch.

To help us plan the coaching sessions we need to know in advance who is coming. To do this please complete our online form here.

Details of the meeting point, mobile numbers for use on the day etc. will be sent to those who register to tell us they are coming.

A few practical points

You’ll need to bring a bike that you can ride off road.

If it is muddy then road tyres will not be suitable for use on the red route circuit.

Bike hire is available if needed – ring Quench bikes on 01580 879694.

Riders should bring a helmet, gloves, a drink, snacks, and a spare inner tube in case of puncture.

You should assume that you will get muddy and dress accordingly!

The coaches will have the final say over which riders can go on which of the three rides, depending on ability, equipment and the ratio of coaches to riders.

Transport information

Bedgebury is about an hour’s drive from Pickhurst.

For SatNav users, the postcode for Bedgebury is TN17 2SL, or a Google map can be found here.

Parking at Bedgebury is £8. If you do not want to stay then we may be able to arrange to meet children at the gate and escort them into the site, saving on parking fees.

Some helpers and parents may have spare spaces for children and bikes. If you need transport (or have spare capacity) let us know on the registration form and we will try to match you up.

There will be no session at Pickhurst that day

We need all our coaches to supervise activity at Bedgebury, so there will be no session at Pickhurst on Saturday 12 November. If you are unable to come to Bedgebury then we will refund you the £3 coaching fee that has been paid for that session (plus any sibling coaching fees) at the following session on Saturday 19 November.

We’ll be holding our term-time sessions every Saturday morning at Pickhurst from 10.15 to 12 noon. This year we’ve got some additional coaches on board, and during the autumn term we’ll be introducing some new approaches to coaching and assessing rider progress.

This is part of a move by the club to achieve Clubmark accreditation which is a requirement for all Go-Ride clubs, designed to ensure consistent good practice and minimum operating standards. And if that all sounds a bit serious, don’t worry – the main objective is still for our riders to have fun and enjoy being on their bikes!

The first year of the Bromley Go-Ride Racing League reached its conclusion on Saturday, with a race meeting to remember, and great performances from Bigfoot Go-Ride racers. Continue reading →

The first year of the Bromley Go-Ride Racing League reached its conclusion on Saturday, with a race meeting to remember. Hosted by Bigfoot Go-Ride at Ravensbourne School, we had a fantastic turn out with 47 riders taking part – 24 of them from Bigfoot!

Volunteers from Ravensbourne set up the most challenging circuit yet – a cross country mountain bike course, with climbs and descents on a grass track, a singletrack course snaking in and out of the trees, and a steep descent down onto a section of tarmac before heading back onto the grass to the finish line.

All the Bigfoot riders did really well, with race wins for Cameron McIntyre and Imogen Meers, and podium finishes for Jack Harradine, Irfan Zaman, Milly Shemmings, Jack Friend and Callum McIntyre.

You can read the race report, check out the full results and look through the photo gallery on the racing league website.

We have a winner!

The final league positions of the season were decided on Saturday, and we are proud to announce that Imogen Meers was crowned the overall winner of the Under 10s category. Imogen came first in all ten races in 2010-11 and finishes the season unbeaten – a fantastic acheivement! She was pushed close all year by our own Irfan Zaman, who finished the Under 10s category in second place. Also doing well in the under 10s was Milly Shemmings, who took fourth place overall.

In the under 8s a tight battle had been going on all season, with Bigfoot riders taking four of the top five places! Second place went to Jack Harradine, followed closely by Cameron McIntyre, just two points behind. Sannah Zaman finished in third place, followed by Lily Meers.

Bigfoot dominated the Under 12s too, taking five out of the top six places. Sam Hopkins was rewarded for consistency all season by a second place finish, with Callum McIntyre just one point behind. Making up our famous five were Aaron McIntrye, Hannah Buckley and Emily Ogden.

Finally, in the competitive Under 14s group, Michael Chambers was outnumbered but never outgunned, finishing the year in third place.

You can find the full end-of-year league tables here.

A great first year

The first season of the Bromley Go-Ride Racing League has exceeded all our expectations: in total 68 riders from seven different clubs have taken part over the course of five events.

Congratulations to every rider who has taken part and made the league so much fun and so exciting to be involved with.

Thanks to the volunteers who have organised the race meetings, marked out the courses, carried the kit across fields, put up the gazebos, provided the refreshments, carried out the risk assessmsents, filled in the forms, registered the riders, recorded the results, taken the photographs, and updated the website!

But most of all, thanks to the riders who’ve made the league such a runaway success, and the the mums, dads and carers who enabled them to come along.

Don’t forget that there’s no Go-Ride session at Pickhurst this Saturday as it’s the final round of the Bromley Go-Ride Racing League. The event is being held at Ravensbourne School, Hayes Lane, BR2 9EH (click here for a map). We’ll be setting up a great circuit, with a cross country section through woods, a tarmac section and flat and banked grass sections.

It should be an exciting morning, with Bigfoot riders in contention for prizes in all the age categories.

The races should be over by midday, followed by a presentation of the prizes.

There will be certificates for every rider that has taken part in the League this year, and medals and trophies for the winners in each age category, so it should be a great morning.

It costs £3 per rider to enter, which covers two races – an individual time trial and a mass start race. Riders will race in their agre categories as usual. We would ask parents to stay on site to supervise their children, as the coaches will be busy running the event so won’t be able to provide the same level of supervision as normal.

We’ll be back at Pickhurst for normal coaching sessions on Saturday 2 July and Saturday 9 July, and then for the last session of the term on 16 July we’re arranging a fun bike session at Pickhurst together with our friends from Penge Go-Ride.
