How to join

Bigfoot Go-Ride membersWhen we held our first Bigfoot Go-Ride session in March 2009 we never thought it would grow so quickly and become so popular! We now have around 45 members, with most of these attending each coaching session.

Our membership capacity is limited by the number of coaches and helpers we have, and by the space available in the playground at Pickhurst School. Bigfoot Go-Ride currently has a capacity of 45 members. As this membership level has now been reached we will put your name on a waiting list, and allocate you a place as soon as one becomes available.

If your child is aged between 7 and 14 complete our membership enquiry form and we will put your name down on the waiting list and let you know when a place becomes available.

To make sure that our coaching spaces are used effectively, and to help those on the waiting list to get a place at Bigfoot Go-Ride, we have a set of rules that set out what happens if existing members no longer attend. The waiting list policy is published below.

We are always looking for more coaches and helpers so that we can offer membership to more children. Find out more about becoming a coach or a helper at the bottom of the page.

What does it cost?

We try to keep the cost as low as possible. There are two elements:

There is an annual membership fee of £12.50, payable in the autumn term. This is reduced to £8.50 for those starting in the spring term and £4.50 for those starting in the summer term.

Each term there are coaching fees of £3.00 per session, payable in advance for the term. The actual amount will depend on the number of sessions in a particular term, although this will usually vary between 10 and 12 sessions. Each session runs from 10.15 to 12 noon on a Saturday morning.

Coaching fee discounts

  1. If you start part way through a term, your coaching fee will be reduced according to the number of sessions left in that term.
  2. If you are a new starter we will offer you a full refund of all fees paid if your child does not want to continue coming to Bigfoot Go-Ride, as long as you tell us after no more than three sessions.
  3. If you have more than one child at Bigfoot Go-Ride, we offer a discount off the coaching fees: the second child in same family pays £2.50 per session; and any other children in the same family pay £2.00 per session each. Each child must pay the annual membership fee.
  4. If you are in receipt of Income Support the fee for your child is £1 per session. Note: to enable children from low income families to benefit from cycle coaching, Bigfoot Go-Ride has been awarded Grassroots Grants funding to meet the membership and coaching fees of a number of riders until March 2011. Please get in touch using the membership enquiry form if you would like to apply for an assisted place.

No bike? No problem!

If you do not have a suitable bike, you could still be able to come to Bigfoot Go-Ride. We have a number of club bikes which, depending on availability, we may be able to lend your child for use at coaching sessions. We also have a small number of bikes available to those on low incomes who have received an assisted place under our Grassroots Grants-funded scheme. Please contact us for more details.

Increasing our membership capacity

The number of children we can coach depends on the number of qualified coaches at the club. Parents are very welcome to get involved as helpers, and we’re keen to get more parents trained up as coaches. If you’re interested in taking British Cycling’s Level 2 coaching qualification we would be very happy to help you gain practical experience and complete the course. Waiting list policy

To make sure that our coaching spaces are used effectively, and to help those on the waiting list to get a place at Bigfoot Go-Ride, we have a set of rules that set out what happens if exisiting members no longer attend:

  1. Where a member has paid for the whole term, their space is guaranteed for that term, even if they do not atttend regularly.
  2. If a member contacts us to say that they will no longer be coming they lose their space. If there is a waiting list at the point of resigning their membership we will refund any fees for remaining coaching sessions.
  3. If a member does not attend any of the first three sessions of a new term and does not contact one of the coaches to agree a later start date they will lose their place.
  4. If a member does not pay their coaching fees by the third session of a new term, Bigfoot Go-Ride will issue a reminder. If no payment is made following the reminder, the member will be deemed to have lost their place.
