Looking after your children

British Cycling Go-Ride coach supervises a race startThe good care of your children is our number one priority. We want our junior members to have fun in a safe environment. Bigfoot Go-Ride’s commitment to you:

  1. Our coaches and helpers are CRB-checked through British Cycling, and our coaches and Club Welfare Officer have undertaken training on safeguarding children. Your children will always be under the supervision of a trained and CRB-checked responsible adult.
  2. We will not allow your child to take part in riding activities if we feel that their bike is unsafe or if they do not wear a helmet. Similarly we will not allow your child to be endangered by another child’s unsafe bike.
  3. Although will always encourage our riders to develop their riding skills and confidence, no one is required to take part in any activity or exercise that they do not wish to.
  4. The nature of cycling means that accidents do happen from time to time. In the event of an accident we will ensure that appropriate first aid is provided by a qualified first-aider, or that appropriate action is taken for more serious injuries. Any accidents or injuries will be recorded, and you will be notified.
  5. We will always appoint a Club Welfare Officer, whose role is to promote and support the implementation of British Cycling’s policy on good practice and child protection. More information about our Club Welfare Officer can be found below.
  6. Bigfoot Go-Ride has adopted British Cycling’s policy and procedures for the protection of children and vulnerable adults, which can be downloaded here.

Club Welfare Officer

Any person with information or suspicion about the welfare of a child (such as poor practice or possible abuse) must immediately report this to the Bigfoot Go-Ride Club Welfare Officer, who will refer the matter to British Cycling’s Child Protection Lead Officer.
